Wrestling decides where the fight happens. Every grappling exchange starts standing, and whoever controls that decides whether the match is fought on their terms or somebody else's — which is why wrestlers who cross into Jiu-Jitsu tend to do disproportionately well, and why Jiu-Jitsu players who never learn it spend their careers pulling guard because they have no other option.

This is one focused hour a week rather than a full programme, and we are straight about that. It runs on Saturday at 12:30, directly after the kids class, and it exists to fill the exact gap the rest of the week leaves: level changes, penetration steps, sprawls, front headlock, and the scrambling that decides who comes up on top.

It is taught by a coach with more than thirty years of wrestling behind him — a former Dagestan regional champion and a Master of Sport in Freestyle Wrestling, which is a credential you will not find at most academies in the GTA. No wrestling background is assumed, and you do not need to be a competitor to get value out of it.

What makes this class different

It is the half most grapplers skip

Most Jiu-Jitsu players are far better off the floor than on their feet, because takedowns are the part nobody drills. An hour a week closes that gap faster than anything else you could do with the time.

Taught by a Master of Sport

Thirty-plus years of wrestling, a Dagestan regional title and a Freestyle Wrestling Master of Sport. The instruction is the real thing, not a Jiu-Jitsu coach improvising takedowns.

No background assumed

You do not need to have wrestled at school or anywhere else. The session teaches the positions from the floor up, and beginners are expected rather than tolerated.

Questions parents and beginners ask

How often does the wrestling class run?

Once a week, Saturdays at 12:30 PM. It is a focused supplement to the Jiu-Jitsu schedule rather than a separate programme, and it is included in your membership.

Is wrestling harder on the body than Jiu-Jitsu?

It is more explosive, and hitting the mat takes getting used to. We drill the breakfalls before anything else, and the pace is set by who is in the room rather than by a competition standard.

Do I need wrestling shoes?

No. Train barefoot as you would for Jiu-Jitsu. Shorts without pockets or zips and a rash guard or t-shirt is all you need.
