Muay Thai is called the art of eight limbs because it uses all of them — two fists, two elbows, two knees and two shins — and it is the striking system that has proven itself most reliably under pressure. It is also one of the hardest conditioning sessions you can get without it feeling like a workout, because you are too busy learning to notice.

Our classes are built around technique first. You will spend your early weeks on stance, balance and the mechanics of a kick that does not leave you off-balance, working the pads and the bags, long before anyone asks you to stand in front of a partner. The clinch — the close-range grip fighting that separates Muay Thai from kickboxing — comes in once the basics hold up.

Nobody is required to spar. Plenty of our members train Muay Thai for years as their fitness and never take a hard shot, and plenty of others use it as the striking half of a complete game alongside the Jiu-Jitsu classes on the other evenings.

What makes this class different

Pads before people

The first weeks are you, a coach and a pair of pads. Technique gets built where nothing is hitting back, which is both safer and considerably faster than learning under pressure.

The hardest cardio you will not notice

An hour of rounds does more for your conditioning than an hour on a treadmill, and you spend it learning a skill rather than watching a clock.

It pairs with the grappling

Muay Thai runs at 6:00 PM and Jiu-Jitsu at 7:00 PM on the same evenings. Stacking the two is common, and it is how you end up with a game that works standing and on the floor.

Questions parents and beginners ask

Do I need my own gloves to start Muay Thai?

Not for your first class. Come in shorts and a t-shirt and we will sort you out. If you decide to stay, gloves and wraps are the first things to buy and we stock both.

Will I get hit in my first class?

No. Beginners work pads and bags. Partner work comes later, at a level you agree to, and sparring is never a requirement of training here.

I have never done a striking sport. Is that a problem?

It is the normal case. Most people arrive having never thrown a proper punch, and the class is structured to assume exactly that.
