Children get two disciplines here. Kids Jiu-Jitsu runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and again on Saturday morning; Kids Muay Thai runs on Friday. A child can do one or both — they are different enough to keep a short attention span engaged, and they teach opposite halves of the same lesson about staying calm when something is happening to you.

Jiu-Jitsu is the one most parents come looking for, usually because of something that happened at school. It is grappling — no striking at all — which means a child learns to control a bigger kid and get back to their feet without anyone throwing a punch. That is very close to what school bullying actually looks like, and it is the reason the skills transfer.

The classes are run as classes, not as babysitting. There is a warm-up, there is technique, there is a game at the end, and there is a standard of behaviour that is enforced kindly and consistently. Most of what parents report back is not about fighting at all — it is about a kid who listens the first time and who is easier to get out of the door in the morning.

What makes this class different

Built for the thing that actually happens

Playground trouble is grabbing, shoving and ending up on the floor. It is almost never a boxing match. Jiu-Jitsu is the art that addresses exactly that, without teaching a child to hit anyone.

Discipline that follows them home

Bowing on, listening the first time, lining up, trying the hard thing again after it did not work. Parents notice these before they notice a single technique.

Two disciplines, one membership

Kids Jiu-Jitsu three times a week and Kids Muay Thai on Friday, all covered. Children can do one, or both, or move between them as their interest moves.

Questions parents and beginners ask

What age can my child start?

The kids classes run from age 4 to 12. From 13, teenagers move into the teens class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, which is pitched for their age rather than for small children.

Is it safe for young children?

Jiu-Jitsu involves no striking, which removes the head-impact risk that comes with most martial arts. Children are matched by size and age, supervised throughout, and taught to tap and to respect a tap from their first session.

My child is shy. Will they cope?

Shy children are the ones this tends to help most, and the coaches are used to it. Nobody is forced to perform in front of the class, and a nervous first session is normal rather than a problem.

What does my child need to bring?

For their first class, just comfortable clothes they can move in and a water bottle. We will lend a gi for Jiu-Jitsu if you have not bought one yet.
